The roles and constructs of self vulnerability
Essay topic:
Explore the roles and constructs that make you feel the most vulnerable about who you are in the world.
Introduction
Start your paper with an engaging hook that introduces the topic of identity and how it can connect to the impostor phenomenon and self-awareness. Then, write an expository thesis statement that answers these questions: Which social constructs and/or roles make you feel the most vulnerable? Why?
Body (3-4 Paragraphs)
Analyze two or three social constructs/roles that cause unease and uncertainty related to your identity. Analyze each social construct/role in its own paragraph. Consider the following:
- Define is the social construct/role as it pertains to you.
- Is your vulnerability a result of personal expectation or a result of others’ expectations for you?
- How does society use this construct/role to label who you are?
- Does this construct/role make you feel like a fraud? Inadequate? Does it cause you to view yourself negatively? Why?
- Why is this construct/role problematic for you?
In your final body paragraph, propose at least two (2) changes you can make that will help you become more accepting of these social roles/constructs that make you feel vulnerable. Consider the solutions that you have learned during Unit 1 that address self-love and awareness. For instance, how can you minimize these feelings of not belonging or feeling fraudulent when it comes to these roles/constructs? Why is it important to do so? Explain your answers.
Conclusion
In your conclusion, restate your thesis statement and explain why it is important for people to address feelings of inadequacy. Why is it important to be aware of how they view themselves?
