Week 3 Discussion: Negotiating With Stakeholders

Week 3 Discussion: Negotiating With Stakeholders

You are the Chief Nursing Officer of a large urban hospital that is considering adopting a new Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. The new system is expected to greatly improve patient care coordination, reduce medication errors, and increase transparency in billing and documentation. Before a final decision can be made, you must negotiate with stakeholders to get buy-in for this new system.

  1. The nurses’ union is concerned about the training nurses will need and whether this will add more tasks to their already demanding shifts.
  2. The hospital’s IT department predicts challenges with integrating the new EHR system with existing systems.
  3. The patients’ advocacy group wants assurances that the change will not disrupt patient care and that patients’ private data will be secure.
  4. The board of directors wants a return on investment (ROI) and a timeline for the expected benefits of the new system.
  5. The medical staff is concerned about the learning curve and potential workflow disruptions.

Select one of the stakeholder groups above and discuss strategies you would use to negotiate with them to receive buy-in.
