Discussion Forum 3: Trauma Resiliency Model

In Discussion Forum 3, post your response to the following discussion question. Reply to at least two classmates’ responses by the date indicated in the Course Calendar.

Forum Objective

The goal of this discussion is to explore how to incorporate the six skills of the trauma resiliency model (TRM) into clinical practice and understand their role in stabilizing a patient’s nervous system. You will discuss how these skills can be applied in a nursing context to promote trauma-informed care, support emotional regulation, and foster resilience in patients.

Part 1

The first part of this assignment is to create an initial post that includes information listed in numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4 below. The requirements for posting Part 1 is listed in number 5.

  1. Overview of the Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM)

Begin by providing a brief overview of the trauma resiliency model (TRM), including its purpose and relevance in trauma-informed care. Discuss the significance of stabilizing the nervous system in patients who have experienced trauma and the importance of helping patients build resilience.

  1. The Six Skills of TRM
  • Identify and explain the six skills of the trauma resiliency model. These skills include:
    • Grounding
    • Breathing
    • Centering
    • Resourcing
    • Titration
    • Pendulation
  • For each skill, describe what it involves, how it helps stabilize the nervous system, and the underlying therapeutic principles.
  1. Incorporating the Six Skills in Nursing Practice
  • Discuss how these six skills can be integrated into your nursing practice, especially in the context of psychiatric mental health care. Provide examples of how you would incorporate these skills when working with patients who have experienced trauma.
  • Explore the role of the nurse practitioner in helping patients develop these skills to manage stress, reduce emotional dysregulation, and promote nervous system stabilization.
  1. Stabilizing the Nervous System
  • Reflect on the physiological and psychological importance of stabilizing the nervous system in patients who are experiencing trauma-related symptoms. Discuss how the six TRM skills can work together to create a calming and supportive environment for patients.
  • Discuss any challenges or barriers you may encounter when using these skills in practice and how you could address them.
  1. Requirements
  • Your initial post should be 500 to 750 words in length.
  • Use APA 7th edition format for in-text citations and references.
  • Include at least two scholarly references to support your discussion.
