Labor Study: Collective Bargaining in Canada
The first assignment is due February 5, 2020. It is a 2 page, single-spaced paper (Times New Roman and 12 pt font) on a collective bargaining issue in Canadian current events (eg. strike or lockout, or government intervention in bargaining). It should be based on a news item you may have seen. If the assignment is submitted late, 5% will be deducted from the grade for each day it is late. The assignment can be submitted in class or via e-mail.
Once you come up with a current event involving a collective bargaining issue, you are to describe it clearly by providing a summary of its background and then provide an analysis about the issue. You should be able to identify the key collective bargaining issues between the parties and critically analyze these key issues (for example, if the parties have a dispute in bargaining, you could discuss whether parties have any options in addressing or resolving that dispute).
The assignment will be marked on the following criteria:
- Organization;
- Clarity of writing;
- Identification of collective bargaining issues;
- Engagement with and analysis of issues
