Instructions:
Present a critical evaluation of the development organisation, agency or major programme you chose for Assignment 2. Your evaluation may be structured in any way appropriate to your case, but you might like to consider some of the following:
- Background (their aims & objectives, history, context and work—briefly!)
- Development effectiveness (against aims & objectives, other or overall improvement of cost efficiency,
beneficiaries’ views of effectiveness) - Empowerment, participation
- Legitimacy – how do they derive their legitimacy, how strong is it, in whose eyes
- Relationship to other development actors, actual or potential – the deal and areas best to
partner or leave to others - Critiques, dark sides, weaknesses and failures, adverse impacts
- Future trajectories – challenges, innovations, funding issues, growth options, etc – THIS IS KEY
You SHOULD use the same organisation, agency or major programmer as in Assignment 2.
Assessment Criteria:
- Clear and concise response to the topic
- Demonstrated understanding of unit material
- Analytical, exposition of issues and critical evaluation
- Research and referencing, in-text citations and a reference list with sufficient quality references
- Plan, structure, formatting, readability, communication, length, spelling & grammar
Assessment Forms
This assessment presented as an essay: - Demonstrating understanding of unit material is important
- Analysis and critique are still equally required as they would be in an essay
- Referencing and proper citation of sources are still required, including a reference list
- No extra points for creativity will be award beyond usual marks for presentation and
communication.
