Assessment Task: Pamphlet Counseling
Students are required to create a pamphlet to give to counseling clients (in the organization they work for) before they engage in their first session.
Instructions for the Student :
This assessment task will be assessing your knowledge and skills related to supporting clients to understand how counseling fits into the helping industry, what they can expect from the counseling process, and legal and ethical considerations.
This assessment will be completed in your time and to be completed by session 6 of the unit.
This assessment is an individual task.
To achieve a ‘Satisfactory’ result for this task, the pamphlet you produce must meet all criteria specified in the table below.
If you receive an ‘Unsatisfactory’ result, you will be required to review your feedback and learning materials and resubmit the assessment task. You will have one opportunity for resubmission.
Document to submit:
The completed Pamphlet to be uploaded to the VU Collaborate Assessment Task 1 Dropbox . The pamphlet can be created using Word, Publisher, or ePhamphlet (provide a link), or in another format agreed to by your teacher.
Create a pamphlet for new counseling clients, covering the following:
[Note: the information in the pamphlet needs to cover the content below, and be supplemented by relevant images]
- How counseling has evolved as a helping relationship and how it fits into the helping services
- What clients can expect from the counseling process
- Purpose of counseling
- Scope of counseling services in your organization
- Nature of the counseling relationship (including professional boundaries)
- Models of counseling
- Principles of person-centered practice
- Include a brief description one other counseling model/intervention used in your organization
- Legal and ethical considerations of counseling, and how they are applied in your organization:
- codes of conduct/practice
- anti-discrimination
- duty of care, mandatory reporting, privacy, confidentiality, and disclosure
- human rights, rights and responsibilities of workers, employers, and clients
- practitioner/client boundaries
- records management
- work role boundaries – responsibilities and limitations
- occupational health and safety
If you feel that you are experiencing difficulties completing the task, please arrange a time to speak to your teacher.
Once complete, please submit your responses via the Dropbox submission point.
Once your submission has been assessed you will be able to track your grades in the ‘Grades’ area in VU Collaborate.
Criteria for Satisfactory Performance of the Task
Your teacher will evaluate your work according to the criteria for satisfactory performance of the task listed below. If you wish to, you may use the “self-assess” column to evaluate your own performance against each criterion.
