Biopsychosocial Assessment and Transcript
Description:
Throughout the course, you will be required to formally present at least one recording/case to the class. By now you should have signed up for a specific week in which you will present to the class. In this assignment you will prepare for the upcoming presentation by selecting a recorded client session and writing a biopsychosocial assessment for the session as well as a transcript of the session. The recorded session that you select for presentation should include approximately 2 minutes at the beginning, 7 minutes in the middle, and approximately 2 minutes at the end for a total of 10-13 minutes. It should also have at least 10 responses that identify skills being applied and a demonstration of the utilization of theory.
Part One: Biopsychosocial Assessment
Write a biopsychosocial assessment of the recorded session that you plan to present to the class later in the course. Your assessment should include the following headings in this order:
- Presenting Problem
- Developmental History
- Social and Cultural History/Issues
- Health History
- Client Resources
- Case Conceptualization
- Client “Working Diagnosis” and Treatment Plan
Part Two: Transcript
You will need a transcript of the recorded client session that you are plan to present and discuss with the class.
Guidelines for Transcript:
- Transcribe verbatim (including every word/utterance) a selected 10-minute sequential portion. You must have a sequential segment with at least 10 verbal responses included. Minimal encouragers (e.g., hmm…) are not counted as a verbal response.
- Begin and end the typescript with statements from your client. They may be included or embedded within the larger response. If you have 10 responses, but are not yet at 10 minutes, continue until you have a 10-minute segment. Also, if you have 10 minutes but do not have 10 responses, continue your typescript until you have 10 responses.
- On your typescripts, please label each of your counselor and client responses (e.g., Client 1, Counselor 1, Client 2, Counselor 2). Do not use client names.
- After each intervention provided by the counselor, include a line labeled “Better Response” with a well thought out response to the client.
Submit your written biopsychosocial assessment, a link to the recorded session that is referred to in the assessment, the written transcript, and a signed informed consent form to your instructor for review. Be prepared to conduct a presentation of your biopsychosocial assessment during the group class meeting that you signed up for in week two.
