Successful organisations need to be well managed and led to achieve efficiency and a competitive advantage.   Part of this success is facilitated through identifying, planning and managing all resources to ensure that they are effectively utilised.  Management of HRM development, effective recruitment and selection processes, induction, training, performance management, resource planning and monitoring are key elements to ensure organisations aims and objectives are met and staff attrition is minimised.  Maintaining financial viability by forecasting, budgeting, leasing and stock control to ensure that resources are available when the organisation needs them is crucial.

Completion of this assignment will address the following learning outcomes:

  • Appraise the development of the human resource function.
  • Investigate and plan the resources required to achieve an organisation’s aims and objectives.
  • Evaluate and appraise the use of resources against organisational plans.
  • Formulate plans to ensure that resources are maximised and remedial actions taken where appropriate.

Task Title: Resource Plan 

You have just taken over an SME which has seen a recent decline in productivity.  To ensure your business is well managed from employee and resource perspectives you are to create a Resource Plan.  The plan should provide essential information on the HR & Operations Function and how your chosen organisation should manage its resources to meet its aim, objectives and long-term goals over a 12 month period.  The audience for this is your business mentor from a local enterprise advisory board.

Assignment Structure

Context

  • You have just taken over a SME which has seen a recent decline in productivity. To ensure your business is well managed from employee and resource perspectives you are to create a Resource plan
  • The plan should provide essential information on the HR & Operations Function and how your chosen organisation should manage its resources to meet its aim, objectives and long term goals over a 12 month period. The audience for this is your business mentor from a local enterprise advisory board.

Suggested Structure & word count: 3,000 words

Section 1: Introductory

  • Introduction and Company Profile
  • Current situation of the small business:
  • Need to project its decline in productivity while it was good in the past
    • Environment that the small business operates
  • Macro & Micro environments [ use PESTLE & SWOT tools that actually reflects the organisation’s current situation]
    • Resources required: mention 5Ms [ men, machines, methods, materials & money]
    • Resource plan
  • Concept of RP and its significance
  • Information about the use of the resource: HR & operation functions
  • Demand and supply of resources [nature & quantity]

Section 2: Resource plan

2.1 Aims, objectives and long term goals over a 12 month period

2.2 Theoretical application /analyses with focus on chosen organisation

2.3 Evaluate and appraise the use of resources against organisational plans -Triangulation of concepts practise and theories/models discussed above

2.4 What should the plan cover:

  • Audience: Business Mentor from a local enterprise advisory board
  • Detailed plan should :
  • Convince the board to finance in business
  • Ensure that resources are maximised and remedial actions taken
  • Now, present a robust plan e.g. human, activities, operations budget and time [ you can present in diagrams/models/tables & Gantt chart etc.]
