Case Study
RH is a 32 year old male with a past medical history of acute myelogenous leukemia. He was given a blood product transfusion for bone marrow failure and cytopenia secondary to chemotherapy for AML. The patient is a Jehovah’s Witness; however, he accepted the blood transfusion. Now, the patient has altered mental status. He has a chest tube placed and on a ventilatory in the ICU. He is sedated, nonresponsive, and unable to make decisions for himself… due to his unresponsiveness. The patient has a wife, daughter, and parent’s that visit. He has no advanced directive.
Respond to the following questions:
