Civil Rights Movement Essay

Description

Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X were both interested in achieving greater opportunities, politically and economically, for African Americans. However, these two leaders differed on tactics.  King desired a more liberal approach that emphasized equality within the broader American society; Malcolm X advocated a more radical approach that sought to strengthen the African American community independently from the rest of American society.  In your essay, evaluate to what extent the Civil Rights movement followed King’s approach, and to what extent the Civil Rights movement followed Malcolm X’s approach between 1945 and 1980.
