Criminal Law Policing Assignment
The assignment has two main sections:
Part 1 – Futures Thinking
Students are asked to use the futures thinking model to:
- Gather intelligence: this should be your research piece. What are the signs of change? What are the current trends and events affecting your topic? What do experts say? What are some different perspectives?
- Explore the dynamics of this change: what is driving the change? Which of these drivers is most important? What things do you know about this change? What things are uncertain? And which uncertainties are most important for you to address?
- Describe what the future looks like: what are potential outcomes? What are the opportunities you see? How can you capitalize on these? What are the threats you see? How can you mitigate them?
- What are your responses? How will you address this change? Policy? Strategy? What things will have to change in your organization to implement this new policy or strategy? What does your timeline look like? What factors will affect your organization’s response to the change?
Part 2 – Personal Perspective
For the second portion of this project, let’s consider your role in this change.
- Think about your career and experiences specifically. When you started, what did the area of policing you chose to discuss above look like? What things do you see that are driving the change?
- How will the change affect you and your work specifically?
- What do you want your legacy as a police leader to be? How does your response to and planning for the future of policing affect that legacy?
- In order to be effective, your response should be around 3,000 words at a minimum. It should contain at least five academic references (two of which can be from the assigned reading). The paper should be in APA format, to include double-spacing; a title page; citations; and a Works Cited page.
