Data Analysis Methodology Discussion
In the methodology section, students will explain how the action research study was or will be conducted in enough detail to allow another researcher to repeat the study, replicate the data collection and analysis procedures. The papershould be in paragraph form, follow APA6 style, be at least 3 pp. in length and include the following components:Introduction, Research Methods, Summary and Reflections.
The Methodology section should:
- Begin with a brief description of the research question or problem. This should take approximately one short paragraph.
- Describe the subjects and setting in enough detail so that the next researcher to do this study can choose a similar population. (If it is a cluster sample, make a note that the groups were previously assigned).
- Describe the research study design (nonexperimental, Experimental, qualitative, with/without control group, Solomon 4-group, factorial, etc.).
- If the subjects were randomly assigned, make a note about how.
- Describe the Data Collection Method — Describe the data sources; dependent variables; instrumentation (where relevant), reliability and validity.
- Make a heading called “procedures.” Now list everything you will do during the experiment. If you are using a test, name it; or note that a researcher designed tool will be used to collect data,
- Describe how the data will be analyzed. For our purposes a short paragraph about descriptive and inferential statistics that you intend to use will suffice.
The final part of the study is a list (bulleted list is acceptable), of the perceived limitations of the study. Were the groups previously assigned? Are there any other factors that may impact your results? What are the anticipated results (where relevant)? What are the limitations? What are the implications for further research?
