Developing Literacy – Curriculum and Pedagogy

Developing Literacy – Curriculum and Pedagogy

Assessment Context

Teaching English language and literacy in early childhood and primary years requires an understanding of how to utilise and synthesise theories, content knowledge, effective pedagogical practices, language and literacy enriched learning environments, and relevant Australian curriculum and learning frameworks. Developing learning experiences or lessons that are appropriate to student interests, strengths and needs are important as it will help to provide opportunities for all students in early years education (from birth to 8 years of age) to read, write, listen, and speak in a variety of contexts.

For the purpose of this assignment, you will demonstrate your understanding of the process of teaching phonological awareness in relation to supporting children through the phases of their early reading development and early writing development. This will include an evaluation of teaching phonological awareness, a learning experience and a teaching resource.

Your work should be supported by at least 10 references. Your work should demonstrate relevant links made to either the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) or the Australian Curriculum (or state equivalents), the set-text Fellowes and Oakley (2019), and other relevant scholarly and professional sources. You can refer to Canvas for additional sources and conduct a search using the library database online for relevant sources to support your work.
