Donatos: Finding the New Pizza

For each Case Study Assignment, you will read the assigned case study and analyze the case scenario/research through a series of questions. The overall structure of each case is similar in that each case begins with an abstract followed by a description of the scenario/research and concludes with a discussion about the situation. The discussion is simply a series of unique questions about the case scenario that you will answer as your Case Study Assignment.

No abstract is required for the Case Study Assignment nor are an introduction or conclusion; simply type the questions as an APA style heading and respond.

Ensure the following are met:

The cases can be found in McGraw Hill Connect or as documents in the Resources section.

Abstract

The pizza segment of the fast-food industry is very aggressive. As people’s tastes change and new diets become the rage, restaurant chains must decide if and how to respond. This case focuses on the research behind the introduction of Donato’s low-carbohydrate pizza, and how the company collapsed its normal product-development research process to take advantage of a current trend. www.donatos.com

Scenario

Some strategic windows remain open for an extended period of time; other, don’t. One of those slim windows faced Tom Krouse, chief concept officer with Donato’s, an independent premium pizza restaurant chain, headquartered in Columbus (Ohio). Krouse, who is responsible for new product development, had to answer a question facing many restaurants: Is the low-carb diet a flash fad or a trend—and should we respond?
