Topic: Prostitution in areas around USAFA and in Colorado Springs
Problem: Prostitution is in high numbers and the local police are not doing anything to stop it.
Causes: Economic recession is forcing women and men to finance in any way possible in order to survive.
Solutions: Fix economy, call in federal and state police officers to help local law enforcement fight off the sex trafficking in Colorado.

This article talks about how an enormous amount of arrests were made across the country, more than 150, and it included several in Colorado. The FBI used hotel rooms when they were undercover and looked for ads of underage victims. Over 40 arrests were made in the Colorado Springs area and 153 were made nationwide.

This article talks about how KRDO went into one of the areas in Colorado Springs known for its crime and prostitution, and asked business owners if things have gotten better over the last few years. People have their own ideas about safety along S. Nevada Avenue. The Colorado Springs Police department worked to clean up crime, and in 2008, prostitution arrests dropped into the single digits, and CSPD said that is where they remain.

This article talks about anti-trafficking laws that have been passed in the United States in recent years. These laws have resulted in much fewer incidents of any kind of trafficking than authorities originally thought would occur. In the article it discusses how people think that because of some changes in “public framing,” the trafficking problem has reduced.

This Article, about the French Parliament, talks about new bills being passed to fine anyone that is caught with any sort of tie to human trafficking, whether it is soliciting, buying, or accepting any sort of sexual favor in return for money. In the article, 64 people voted for the bill to be passed, while 12 voted against. This is interesting because the parliament consists of 557 members and not even 100 of them voted on such an important topic.

It talks about where these people are first taken from their families and where they end up. It is an insightful article into the horrors these people have to face.

This article is helpful because it gives insight into what is happening on an international scale with human trafficking. The strategies used to solve human trafficking in other countries can be applied to the US and to Colorado Springs.
