Part 1 Introduction
The aim is to introduce our report here in a small paragraph. You can consider to define business processes and its rationale. You need to mention your aims in this report.
Part 2 Identification and Justification
Select an organisation where you can access information on their processes – this organisation can large or small, for profit or not for profit (NfP).
Identify and describe the organisation that is to be investigated. There is the option to select an organisation you work for or own, or an organisation you have previously worked for and are familiar with their processes. Alternatively, can select an organisation such as a friend’s café or a grocery store, where you can access data regarding processes.
If you do not have access to a workplace, you can select a personal goal, for example, paying off a mortgage in 20 years and the processes involved in achieving this. The personal goal should be discussed as the dominant process, while acknowledging other processes that need to be considered to achieve this goal such as feeding and clothing the family or an annual holiday.
- Provide justification on why the organisation you selected has been chosen. This could be as simple as working there and being aware efficiencies that need improvement regarding safety risks not being addressed. Other justifications may be awareness of issues to do with performance or structure.
- Define the organisation’s mission statement, target market, and major strategies. Based on mission and target market, discuss strategies in place and how they assist the organisation to achieve its business objectives and mission.
Part 3 Process Mapping (*)
- Identify ONE business processes that contribute to the running of the organisation you
are investigating. Provide a brief description of these processes. (Week 1, 2 & 3) - Draw ONE flowchart for the described processes discussed in 3.1. (Week 2)
- Develop ONE strategic relationship map of what was discussed in 3.1 (if the organisation is large ie multi-national or complex government organisation then a relationship map of the business unit aligned to the process area you discussed in 3.1 is sufficient). Map out ONE cross-functional map on the businesses described in 3.1 (Week 3)
Part 4 Conclusion
Provide a summary of the business processes in your organisation considering parts 2 and 3. Aim to cover the most important findings. NB no solutions are needed (this will be covered in assignment 2), rather, provide key findings of your observations.
Part 5 References
There is no set number of references, but a minimum of five peer-reviewed articles would be expected from a second year university course. It is important you reference all claims you make correctly citing sources ie journal article, interview with someone who works for the organisation, website, or annual report. Ensure you include in-text citations throughout the document. Use either APA or Harvard referencing style.
If you are concerned about confidentiality/privacy issues with the organisation you work for or are reviewing then you have the option to de-identify the organisation and use a pseudonym eg BigWig Bots. When referencing for this report it is not expected that you to state the specific URL of the organisation, but you do need to indicate where you sourced the information eg 2018 BigWig Bots Annual Report, BigWig Bots website. See Griffith referencing tool https://app.secure.griffith.edu.au/reference_tool/index-core.php to ensure you correctly reference using APA or Harvard style. When completing the cover sheet there is the option to select your work not go any further than the teaching/marking team.
