Discussion 3: Hardware
The most important aspects about purchasing a computer are price, operating system (OS), memory, processor, graphics card, and hard drive. Based on these factors, I would consider purchasing an iPad Pro other than a laptop and a desktop. Features of an iPad are more advanced than those of a laptop and a desktop.
It is easy to connect and run Windows 10 on an iPad. This means that iPad’s OS is compatible with windows 10, which I like using. Also, it is easy to install Windows 10 on an iPad. The processor speed of an iPad is high, with the least having a 1GHz processor speed. Depending on specs, different people consider different generations. For iPad, the 4th generation, for example, has a 1GB RAM. New iPad Pro models all have 6GB RAM, with the higher capacity models having ITB RAM.
I prefer SDD, for it performs faster than HDD. Also, SDD gives an iPad the most speed advantages without the constricted space. Another reason why I prefer an iPad its dedicated graphics card. Cost-wise, an iPad is expensive. Thus, going for an iPad requires a bigger budget compared to a Desktop or a laptop. This is its main con. Since I use Windows 10 and do have an iPad, I would still go for both due to the incredible pros associated with it, as discussed above.
Discussion 4: Networking
In simple terms, net neutrality is Obamacare for the Internet. As per the net neutrality theory, all Internet service providers must equally treat all Internet traffic. The two sides of net neutrality are “for” and “against;” those who support and those who do not support the topic. Companies and people on both sides of the topic argue that they support its central concept, but differ on the particulars and rules, and how it should be implemented.
As per those who support the debate, net neutrality will give the privilege to access the entire Web, freedom from unreasonable limits placed on a user’s online activity, a boost to the innovative process, and freedom of expression. To this side, net neutrality would allow free access to the data available on the Web. Also, saying yes to net neutrality would ensure unbiased rights to access the Web. These reasons justify why neutrality would be beneficial for America and the world at large.
Those against net neutrality argue that the concept will create less network innovation, porn and objectionable content thrives. According to this side, the absence of net neutrality assists the Internet architects and providers to curb questionable Web content and ensures that all sites enjoy equal privileges. Also, an anti-net neutrality decision would facilitate a drop in the free-loaders numbers on the Internet. Without net neutrality, the Internet will continue to have more “room” for productive establishments and legal enterprises, hence curbing cyber-crime.
Discussion 5: Security and Safety
Digital presence refers to how an individual appears online. To an individual, digital presence includes social media profiles and online reviews. What people post on their social media profiles, for example, Facebook and LinkedIn, or what they comment on other people’s posts, and their online reviews, define their personal and professional attributes. In the employment sector, digital presence is continually attracting interest from employers, for example, Zappos. So, if an employer firm creates your profile based on your internet activities, this would portray the “real you.”
Social media profiles, for example, Facebook, enable users to communicate with friends actively. I believe that nobody can share something he/she does not like on social media. So, we share our achievements, passions, hobbies, experiences, and more via digital media. For example, on LinkedIn, people share their career ambitions and professional growth. Potential employers, therefore, are in a pole position to determine our personal and professional attributes based on the information we share and the reviews we leave online.
People concerned about their digital presence need to be careful when posting or leaving reviews online. Going forward, it is essential to share correct personal information, for example, age, education level, current employer and position, and more. Also, people need to be careful not to post unethical stuff online. Besides, leaving positive online reviews on digital media posts is also helpful. But, people have to ensure the security and safety of their social media profiles; for example, through setting strong passwords and having step-two verification measures, this would prevent hackers and fraudulent activities. When people gain illicit access to other’s social media accounts, like Facebook, they tend to share spam content, con friends and engage in other cyber-crime activities. Thus, ensuring the security and safety of digital presence accounts is mandatory.
