Judaism Anti-Seminism and Jewish History

Answer all the following Religion questions:

  1. When one is to talk about Judaism and its history, one of the things that must be discussed is anti-Semitism. Explain what anti-Semitism is and how it has influenced Jewish history. Also use the following concepts: genocide, persecution, forcible conversion,
  2. Christianity Part One: The Catholic Church, the Eastern Orthodox Church, and Protestantism all claim that they are the one true faith. Explain why each group thinks that they are the true religion.
  3. Christianity Part Two: According to Neusner, 92% of Americans believe in God and 70% identify as Christians. Many Americans tend to take it for granted that Christianity is the only legitimate religion. In light of this, describe two criticisms of Christianity in general, and whether you agree or disagree and why.
  4. Islam: What is Jihad? Write me an essay explaining this concept. Be sure to explain the difference between greater and lesser Jihad. Also, use the following concepts: sword verses, defense, and struggle. Other concepts may be used if needed.
  5. The Bahai Faith: Compare and contrast teachings of the Bahai Faith regarding women with two other religions covered in the second half of the course. (Modules 9 through 16.)(100 words minimum)
  6. Latter-day Saints (Mormons): What is restorationism? Explain how the Latter Day Saints (Mormons) which we discussed in class are a restorationist church. (Use the following concepts: apostolic succession, the great apostasy, revelation, the Bible (how it was lost or changed.) Other concepts may be used if needed. (100 words minimum)
  7. Scientology: Religion has been defined in this course by what follows.”A religion is an organized approach to human spirituality which usually encompasses a set of narratives, symbols, beliefs, and practices, often with a supernatural or transcendent quality, that gives meaning to the practitioner’s experiences of life through reference to a higher power, God or gods, or ultimate truth.” Scientology is a religion according to the above definition. Argue either for or against the claim that Scientology is a religion. You must provide evidence and an argument as to why it is or is not a religion.
  8. Secular Humanism: Explain what is Secular Humanism and explain how atheism is (can be) a part of secular humanism. Next, explain how it is still acceptable to insult people by calling them an atheist and then explain why this would be wrong according to Epstein. Other concepts may be used if needed.
