Assignment Overview
This media review-critique assignment (2 pages single space at least or 3 pages double spaced) is worth 10% of your final mark and involves the following:
- Choose an article in Blackboard and read. This will be your primary article. the
- Write a summary with in-text citations of the article and provide your opinion on the article.
- Review the opposing media article and write at least a paragraph on it. The opposing article is the one you didn’t choose to be your primary article to review and critique.
- Develop a one or two sentence debate statement related to the articles.
- Organization and Mechanics. Is the summary organized, pages numbered, reference page, grammar, title page, proper APA form.

Step by Step Instructions
Step 1: Choose and read article.
Read Opinion 1 or 2 (you will be randomly given an Opinion in class). While reading your opinion article, annotate this as it will be submitted with your assignment for marks. For more information on annotating, refer to the Annotating Tip Sheet.
Step 2 (What?) Write a summary: Summarize your Opinion article using in-text citations and provide an opinion of the article (2 pages single-spaced). For information on how to write a good summary for academic purposes, refer to the Summary Writing Tip Sheet located on BlackBoard under assignments.
Step 3 (So what?): Develop one debate statement (1 or 2 sentences).
Develop a one or two sentence debate statement, based on the articles and the information from your peer discussion group. This is to be submitted along with your summary and recorded vote.
Effective debate statements generally state exactly what your side is arguing: The colonists should remain loyal to Britain and not seek independence because….” or: “The colonists, have a right to seek our independence from Britain due to…..”
