This assignment requires you to critically compare and contrast the relevance of each crop industry in the global context, including production and market contexts.
For the purposes of this assignment, you will research the following crop industries:
- Fresh and processed vegetables
- Herbage and vegetable seeds
- Apples and pears
- Kiwifruit
- Wine
1. For each industry, you will:
- Research the production volumes and the range of products produced by New Zealand crop industries. Identify past and future trends in crop production.
- Analyse the New Zealand production output against global production and explain its relevance in a global context.
- Identify the major international markets for New Zealand vegetable, seed, fruit and wine production. Analyse the current international markets and future market opportunities.
- Investigate the systems and key industry organisations involved in the processing, distribution and marketing of New Zealand’s crop production to international markets.
- Research the key challenges in international markets facing New Zealand crop industry producers. Discuss the implications of these challenges for New Zealand producers.
2. Once you have researched and analysed the five areas detailed above for each crop industry, you will critically compare and contrast the significance, markets, systems and challenges for New Zealand vegetable, seeds, fruit and wine production in a global production and market context.
