Organizational Analysis: Case of Wesfarmers
History and Size of the Organization
Wesfarmers is a public-listed company headquartered in Perth, Australia. The retailer was established in 1914 and employs more than 220,000 employees (Renee, 2016). The workforce of Wesfarmers is made up of 46% men and 54% women, and thus a gender sensitive firm in terms of gender pay gap and roles. The head office of Wesfarmers in Perth was set in 1987, and serves among the biggest buildings in Australia (See appendices 1). The company has a diverse portfolio of operations ranging from office supplies, industrial safety products, hardware, apparel and store retailing, gas processing and distribution, and fertilizer and chemical manufacturing (James, 2015). The main goods and services offered by Wesfarmers include fertilizers, coal, gas, chemicals, footwear, Bunnings, and financial services. Domestically, Wesfarmers owns Bunnings, Kmart, Coles, Target, and Officeworks. Currently, Wesfarmers is considering international expansion as “something of necessity”.
Organizational Structure
