Organizational Big Picture Discussion
Often times in organizations, training is initiated because there is a dissatisfaction with the status quo, a problem that needs to be solved, or employees need special knowledge and skills to complete the job. Unfortunately, too many organizational trainers believe that training is the one-size-fits-all solution to any organizational problem. Nothing could be further from the truth. We only utilize training to solve an organizational problem when the cause is a lack of knowledge or skills on the part of the employees.
Other kinds of problems such as lack of motivation, lack of incentives, lack of tools and resources to complete the work, low morale, etc. require different kinds of solutions that training will not fix. However, as you may have guessed, in this course we will focus on a training problem and learning solution. Therefore, you will need to select an organization that could use a training program. This could be the organization you work for currently, perhaps a nonprofit organization in the community, a church, or other organization.
