Part 1

This case talks about a company, Coe’s that operates domestically and at one period, it took risks by trying to invest abroad. The idea to venture at Mexico was already part of the strategic meetings by the key personnel of the company, as well as expanding to Europe, which has similar economic and culture as the United States. This idea is seen to be either good or bad since there are regulatory laws and fees that are getting tighter in the US and as a result increasing the prices. However, the fear of repeating what happened in Puerto Rico a few years ago is a significant part of the debate and postponing the decision of investing internationally.

Currently, the company is doing so well in domestic market. The market is crowded and expensive too,  making a wide open field where there is a real need for the business to look very appealing.  The analysis calculates 35% chance of success in Mexico. There is still much of the domestic markets to explore since the market is saturated and most of the companies customers are also based in Mexico. The company’s strategy is helping as many customers as possible to get access to the products and services they want. Unlike many of its competitors, Coe’s has always emphasized on ownership.
