Project – Visual Art: Salvador Dalí

Project – Visual Art: Salvador Dalí

This week, please submit your final research project. As a reminder, it can take the form of a paper, PowerPoint presentation, or video.

Research Project Details:

In this course, we have explored modern identities through an interdisciplinary approach. This means that we will be drawing from multiple branches of knowledge (literature, art, music, psychology, history) for a fuller understanding of this vast and multi-layered topic.

For the research paper, you will choose ONE piece of 20th-century literature of your choice – select a piece that we read in class – that explores the question: “How does this piece of literature help us understand identity?” Support your response with at least three secondary sources. It is recommended that you use sources from the JWU Library database system. Please see the Course Resources tab in the left-hand navigation menu for help using JWU’s Library for research.

Here is the research project topic:

Visual Art: Salvador Dalí

Read or listen to this biographical information, view examples of Dali’s work in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and watch a short video about one of his most famous works: either “The Persistence of Memory” (6:27) and “Metamorphosis of Narcissus” (4:07)

Guidelines:

  • Title – paper should include a title that reflects the topic.
  • Thesis – paper should present a clear thesis (main idea and conclusion) supported by evidence, examples, and quotes from your selected literary pieces AND from your research.
  • Research – paper should incorporate at least three (3) high quality secondary sources as evidence and support.
  • Length – paper should be four (4) double-spaced pages (1,000-1,500 words)
  • Citations – paper includes proper in-text citations and a Works Cited page formatted according to current MLA guidelines. Be sure to carefully credit your sources. Remember the golden rule: If you use a source (quote, paraphrase, or summary), you must cite it in your essay and then provide the full citation in the bibliography. Please see the Course Resources tab in the left-hand navigation menu for help with MLA formatting.

Please carefully review the rubric for the research paper for details on evaluation and grading.
