Background information

Gamification is the application of game features or use of game design elements in non-game contexts. Research suggests there is a growing popularity with the application of Gamification in education mainly to promote motivation and engagement in learning.

However, there are mixed results in the application and success in formal educational contexts.

Assessment 2: Essay Planning and Rehearsal INSTRUCTIONS

This assessment is designed to assist you in becoming familiar with Curtin library, learning how to research an essay topic and carry out an effective library search, and how to plan an argumentative academic essay. All of these skills will prove to be invaluable in your future Curtin degree.
Assessment 2 will also help you rehearse the preparation of the essay for your final exam.

Your Task

  • Search the library for appropriate articles on Gamification in Education. Read the abstract of each article to see which side of the argument it supports, and whether it is appropriate for your purposes. (You may also need to read some of the article to gain a better idea of the argument). After doing the above, decide which side you will argue for in your assessment.
  • Choose two appropriate academic articles about the essay topic – Gamification in education. Do not use newspaper articles or blogs, or any other non-academic type of article. Do not use books or dissertations, as it is not possible for you to read the entire book/dissertation in order to answer the assessment questions.
  • Complete the questions on the Template – these questions are based on the above two articles you find. Read the instructions for each task carefully. Adhere to all given word counts.
    Remember to leave at least 4 spaces after each answer.
  • Answer the questions 1-6 on the assessment

  • The skills you need to complete this assessment are in the topic materials.
  • Use full sentence and paragraph structure (unless otherwise indicated), and write in formal, third person style with APA referencing.
  • Complete all questions to maximize the amount of marks you can get.
  • Adhere to all given word counts.

Submitting the Assessment

  • Submit the completed Template in the Assessment 2 submission point on Blackboard. Ensure you fill in all required sections and answer all the questions. You should submit one document only, in Word format only.
  • Check you have uploaded the correct assessment, as you do not get a second chance. If you accidentally upload the wrong assessment or anything else, you risk being given zero!
  • You must receive a receipt from Turnitin, otherwise you can assume the upload did not work.
  • Use the Plagiarism Checklist to ensure your work is correctly referenced. Avoid a plagiarism report!!
