The Scope and Nature of Feminism
After reading these several documents from Module 2, write a response (I recommend 1-2 paragraphs per question) answering the following about the FIRST WAVE of feminism:
- What were the issues being discussed in the readings and why are they important?
- What were the goals and outcomes of the “first wave” of feminism? (Pre- 1960s and 70s)
- What happened in terms of racial inequality and the rights of Black women during this era? Was this first wave a movement that was addressing the status of Black women? What is Sojourner Truth trying to declare in “Ain’t I a Woman?”
- After reading these documents, what is your definition of FEMINISM for that particular era?
- What was the importance of the 19th Amendment to this movement? Do believe that it signaled the beginning of a new era for feminism activity?
- Reflect on the meaning of The Declaration of Sentiments video and article. What is it’s relationship to The Declaration of Independence? You may need to do some quick research for this in terms of the Declaration of Independence. Please separate your answers. This does not have to be essay format. Cite examples from the readings. Cite in-text work in APA style when using a source from the module. i.e. (Author, publication year).
