Transforming Into a Learning Organization
Preparation
Imagine that you are a teacher leader and you have been asked to supply ideas to a selected school district to help it transform into a learning organization with more effective leadership practices. Select one of the following practices: engagement, curriculum development, or assessment, to compare and contrast the benefits and shortcomings of this practice in a learning organization and learning community.
Instructions
Create a 6–8 slide presentation using Google Slides or PowerPoint with speaker notes of 75–100 words per content slide, excluding the introduction and source slides, in which you:
- Select one of the following practices: student engagement, curriculum development, or assessment.
- Compare and contrast the benefits and shortcomings of one of the practices of a learning organization and a learning community.
- Using DeWitt’s Program Logic Model, create a program logic model to transform this practice for a K–12 school.
- Describe three or more benefits for students and staff of becoming a learning organization.
Use three sources (no more than five years old) from material outside the textbook to support your writing. One source must be from the textbook.
“It is my hope that changing the way we talk with students, and finding ways to make sure we engage our marginalized populations, will help combat all of this trauma students feel. In order to help you do these things, I have used the program logic model from earlier in the book and adapted it for social-emotional learning. As with all program logic models you will find represented in this book, Figure 4.4 provides specific details that will help meet the needs of the school, which in this case are ways to build an emotional connection to the school community. I truly hope it helps you move forward in a positive way.” Page 67
