West-Chester Private School Case Study

The purpose of this assignment is to analyze how businesses interact with their internal and external environments. Write a paper (1,600-1,800 words) in which you address the following based on the information provided in the “West Chester Private School Case Study” resource.

  • Review how organizations interact with their external environment (as open systems). Evaluate the effectiveness West Chester Private School (WCPS) as an open system at the time of the closure.
  • Review the readings provided for this topic on the internal environment of organizations. Evaluate the organizational culture at the time the decision to close two campuses was made.
  • Evaluate the decision made by Dr. Murphy and Educations Management Services (EMS) in terms of the process of going about the closure. Explain how the behavioral decision-making model was applied in the WCPS’s decision to shut down its campuses.
  • Analyze one major technology and innovation challenge that WCPS faced and propose a solution that would make WCPS more competitive in meeting the needs of the three primary stakeholders affected.
  • Provide an explanation, using appropriate management theories, for how the administration could have handled the closure effectively with stakeholders. Include one theory from each of the following: the classical approach, the human relations approach, and the modern management approach.
  • Provide a suggestion of two goals: one long-term and one short-term goal for the future direction of WCPS. Include a justified rationale of the suggestions.
  • Concluding statement: Integrate the four functions of management as a means to revamp management at WCPS and meet the recommended goals.

Theories from the Classical, Behavioral, and Modern Management Approaches

WCPS or EMS would have had anticipation, organization, supervision, coordination, and control. Sadly, they seem to have lost sight of coordination and control. EMS and WCPS might have prevented the incident if they had worked together to exchange information. Parents were eager to pay extra or even contribute to keep the school open. They couldn’t fix the problem since the organization’s, and stakeholders’ communication was opaque and unplanned, so they decided to shut down (Uhl-Bieb et al., 2021). The EMS or WCPS would have looked significantly different if they had used Maslow’s human needs theory. The company would not have suffered a dip in the other two sites the following year to prioritize stakeholder demands. They did not trust the organization since they did not believe it was stable. This organization tried to be an open system but failed; They interacted with their surroundings but lacked flexibility and quality management. Without these two requirements, the open system will fail; an organization-wide dedication to continual improvement, product, and customer demands (Uhl-Bieb et al., 2021). EMS and WCP would have had greater success if they had trained personnel in technology and satisfied the customer’s transparent demands so they could get their kid into another school.

Plans for the Future

Planning would have aided EMS. Clarifying their vision will aid them in the future. This will help them establish and develop targets to achieve their vision. Start with technology. Since the epidemic, technology has become an integral element of everyday life and education. Setting operational strategies will assist EMS and WCPS define short-term targets and promoting long-term visioning. Identifying the organization’s rules and procedures for future closings will boost the organization’s reputation and customer satisfaction (Uhl-Bieb et al., 2021). This will help them communicate better in the future.

Concluding Statement

This report discussed the WCPS and EMS issue and affected all parties, including administrative staff, students, and parents. The EMS must define a performance goal and determine how they will accomplish it during this planning phase—organizing their resources, objectives, and vision. To attain these aims, the organization encourages its stakeholders to become engaged. Finally, evaluating and measuring the progress of WCPS workers and those in control of them in EMS is required. The firm, the students, and the parents who send their children to the WCPS would all benefit from this if it is done regularly.
