Task Description
This assessment requires you to apply leadership and learning concepts and skills, by identifying two personally-relevant leadership challenges in a chosen short story, and constructing a personal action plan to address these challenges.
- There are two parts, designed to allow feedback on your individual progress.
What you need to do:
Part one – Scenario analysis
This task requires you to read the following two short stories which are in Gordon’s (2010) When chicken soup isn’t enough (available online as QUT library eBook). Both short stories are also available in the QUT Readings on the NSD104 Blackboard website.
- P 33. Mentor Unto Others by Clola Robiinson-Blake
- P 36. A Dose of Diplomacy by Donna Schroeder
After reading both short stories choose ONE that you find significant and that challenges your thinking. Then identify and discuss TWO leadership challenges faced by the health care professional (500 words maximum). 5 references are required for part one.
Part two –Action Plan
This part of your assessment task builds on the scenario analysis which you completed in Part One. It requires you to develop an action plan, supported with evidence-based literature, to address the leadership challenges that you identified (1000 words maximum).
Your plan should (with approximate word limits):
- Provide a brief introduction outlining the structure of the essay (100 words)
- Develop and discuss two clear strategies for each of the two leadership challenges identified in Part One, supported with evidence-based literature (850 words)
- Concluding paragraph (50 words)
Your assignment should be well-referenced. As a guide, you should have cited at least 10 journal articles for Part Two.
