Abolition of Death Penalty in Britain

Abolition of Death Penalty in Britain

Describe the process by which British Parliament after World War Two came to abolish the death penalty for murder in 1969; and identify and clarify what were the crucial factors which led to the successful abolition of the DP. Focus on the arguments and actions of some prominent MPs, and also discuss the significance of the three cases in the 50’s including miscarriages of justice, the role of NGOs, media and pubic opinion. The whole essay should be written in order for us to give lessons to those countries which still retain DPs and want to abolish them.
