Assignment 1: Professional Project Report
Assessment Criteria
As a Masters-level student, you are required to engage in research as per the Australia Quality Framework (AQF) guidelines. Two specific requirements need to be considered. Students need to demonstrate “a body of knowledge that includes the understanding of recent developments in a discipline and/or area of professional practice”, and demonstrate “knowledge of research principles and methods applicable to a field of work and/or learning”.
Each unit in your Masters program has a number of required weekly readings in terms of academic texts, journals and business publications that represent the appropriate body of knowledge and recent developments referred to by the AQF. In order to demonstrate the ability to engage in appropriate research, students should read and utilise these texts and journals and publications, and as a Masters student, demonstrate an ability to research beyond this minimum standard through additional texts, journals and studies that demonstrate an ability to engage in independent research. This is an advanced level course, and accrediting bodies are also looking for evidence of independent research, so the ability to conduct this project without continually relying on your tutors and lecturers is an important part of the learning process for this unit.
You should ensure that you understand the specific research that is required for each assessment piece and recognise that if you merely meet this minimum requirement, you will receive the minimum grade for demonstrated research.
Your attention is drawn to the University’s stated position on plagiarism. THE WORK OF OTHERS, WHICH IS INCLUDED IN THE ASSIGNMENT MUST BE ATTRIBUTED TO ITS SOURCE. A full list of references must be submitted as part of the assessment.
Your assignment will be marked on the following eight criteria, with the weighting given on the Moodle site:
- Professional presentation and accuracy of work
- Quality and appropriateness of references, and accuracy of referencing
- Feasibility of project within time-frame
- Aim and objectives/research questions
- Preliminary critical literature review
- Organisation of the project
- Written communication
Evidence of tutor/lecturer engagement

ASSIGNMENT 1, PART 1
Project plan:
Field of research: My field of research is on the company Tesla. My research title is “ How Tesla has become so successful in the industry”. As a Mechanical Engineer, I always thrive to learn new engineering innovation and development around the world. My mission statement is to know and learn different new technologies and core engineering aspects of my profession. For this project, I have chosen Tesla. Over the last few years, Tesla has emerged a lot in core engineering field. As we all know that, it is slightly more easy to start a startup in It sector rather in the core engineering mechanical field. Tesla has made it very prominently and created a new dimension to the mechanical industry. Tesla is now producing an electric car, battery and continuously improving the energy sector into green energy. It is not easy for any startup group in this field to compete with giant players in the market like Toyota, Ford, Honda, Mercedes, BMW, Volkswagen and so on. Not only Tesla is working on only automotive and storage sectors, they have already made SpaceX ( A space transport system), which enables the colonization of Mars and reduce the cost of space travel. Recently Tesla announced their new venture on public transportation and freight services called Hyperloop and The boring company. So for this project, no other company in my profession has made me interested rather than this newbie Tesla.
Secondary data source: Data will be sourced from https://www.statista.com/topics/2086/tesla/

Research questions: The report intends to answer the following research question: How Tesla has become so successful in the industry after going through hard times and how Tesla continuously innovating and improving technology?
Search terms: Tesla, Tesla Innovation, Tesla business model, Tesla business statistics, Tesla market value and statistics, Tesla revenue, Tesla stock price, Tesla products.
“Automobile industry is full of challenges, including large fixed cost, network effects, and incumbents that might prefer to preserve the status quo, Tesla is showing that a silicon valley startup can overcome many seemingly insurmountable economic problems” ( Stringham et al., 2015)
Fuel cell vehicles are now replaced by battery electric vehicles by Tesla and it is easily seen that Tesla is gaining much popularity having high-end encroachment marketing strategy ( Hardman et al., 2014).
