Assignment 2: The Speaking Lesson
Part 1:
In your own words, reflect on the questions below. (Word limit for part 1 (1, 2, and 3) min. 300 – max. 500 words)
- What do you think makes a good speaking class?
- What are some of the problems in getting students to speak? How would you solve them?
- What do you think is the role of the teacher in a speaking class? Would you participate or intervene in a speaking class? If so, when and why? If not, why not?
Part 2:
In this chapter, you have read about different types of speaking activities. What other activities can you think of? (No word limit for this section.)
If you choose activities from a textbook or the Internet, — including the use of AI tools to generate ideas — please remember to provide proper citation, including the source and a link. This information is crucial for your tutor to evaluate the content. Assignments lacking appropriate citation, especially those that cannot be traced, will not be accepted.
Instructions:
1. Provide 4 examples of speaking activities, one for each of the following levels:
- Beginner
- Pre-intermediate
- Intermediate
- High intermediate/advanced
2. Briefly describe what the activities consist of.
3. Explain why you think the activities will be appropriate for each level: Is it the level of grammatical structure required, the type of vocabulary, the ability of the students to formulate questions, make more complex sentences, etc.? Is it good as a review of a topic? An introduction to the lesson? etc.
