Assessment 1: Literature review

OVERVIEW

Write a literature review on the topic: ‘Supply Chain Technologies’. You should spend about six hours searching relevant articles and writing the report.

Length: 1200 words, 20%

PURPOSE

The purpose of this assignment is to:

  1. To search for published articles on applications of technology in supply chains.
  2. To prepare a report based on the articles you have found which reacts on your understanding of these technologies and the features of the technologies that make the logistics really smart.

The unit learning outcomes assessed are:

  • Critically reflect on a range of functions of value chains and the influence that a range of supply chain technologies will have on them
  • Produce a well-structured and balanced individual report that presents a critique of IT-enabled supply chain management-related topics based upon library research of established academic literature

INSTRUCTIONS

Follow these steps to prepare the literature report:

  • Install Endnote on your computer (Endnote%20notes.pdf? _&d2lSessionVal=sFsIjj2Fem041IMo3zjBJqT4q&ou=809571) as demonstrated in Session 1.
  • Identify a suitable technology (e.g., bar code, RFID, IoT, AI, robotics) or a combination of them.
  • Use key words (e.g. IoT; supply chain) to search for peer-reviewed articles from Victoria University library e-resources as well as Google scholar.
  • Filter the articles to limit them to articles written in the last 10 years. Aim for a maximum of 20 articles.
  • Read the abstract for each article online to start with. If, and only if, the article falls into the area of your research, download the article.
  • Develop an Endnote le based on the references you have downloaded. Refer to the notes on developing an Endnote le in Session 1 (Endnote%20notes.pdf?
  • Write your report in Microsoft Word, while citing through the Endnote le. Note: Microsoft Word is compatible with Endnote.
  • In your report, you should:
    • discuss the role of technology in modern supply chains
    • provide a number of specific examples of technologies that are in use today
    • describe how the application of these technologies has changed the way chain partners interact and integrate with one another.

Instructions

The complete literature review should:

  • Be written in Microsoft Word, 12 point, Times New Roman font using headings and sub-headings.
  • Follow an acceptable academic structure for literature reviews (e.g.

Introduction, Main text, Discussion, Conclusions, Endnote References)

  • Have no more than 1200 words (+/- 10%) words with a word count provided at the end
  • Be referenced in the Harvard style with a minimum [is it minimum or maximum – see above] of 20 different peer reviewed references included (no Wikipedia!!). Refer to the Harvard Guide on VUC for further details.
