Part a, Report (20%):

An operation cannot simultaneously excel on all competitive dimensions. This means prioritising the competitive dimensions is important so that organisations can align their operations towards high priority dimensions. Discuss prioritising the competitive dimensions under each stage of the product life cycle (Introduction, Growth, Maturity and Decline). Bring some examples (products or services) for each stage.

Below points can assist:

  1. You can select a specific industry and build your arguments around it.
  2. Make sure you have evidence (literature and examples) to support your discussions.

Notes:

  • 1500-word (+/- 10 % ).
  • Use Font 12 Calibri and submit the Microsoft Word file.
  • (1500 words. Excluding front page, figures, tables, and references) – It is recommended to avoid appendices.
  • Critical review of literature is required (five references or more), and you need to include appropriate citations of references (Preferably recent journal articles, business magazines or case studies).
  • Please include a front page that highlights the title and shows your full name and student identification number.
  • The essay should have a clear structure. A simple example of structure is as the following (This is only an example. You can be more creative and develop your own structure that supports your work):

Present your key discussions and examples in a five-minute presentation.

  1. Identification and critical analysis of relevant concepts: 20%
  2. Appropriateness of responses to the questions with clear arguments: 40 %
  3. Integration of literature: 25%
  4. Clarity of expression, grammar and spelling: 6%
  5. Appropriate and relevant structure and meeting the word limit: 6%
  6. Conformity to Harvard referencing style: 3%

Presentation marking criteria:

  1. Organisation: 20 %
  2. Use of communication aids: 15 %
  3. Depth of content: 30 %
  4. Address all the questions: 25 %
  5. Utilisation of time: 10 %
