Case Analysis Brick Mason Paper

Review the OSHA Recommended Practices for Safety and Health Programs (Links to an external site.) six (6) step approach to hazard prevention and control and use your findings to analyze the case study presented below.  https://www.osha.gov/safety-management
Incident Summary A brick mason was removing deteriorating mortar from bricks in a building that was being renovated. To loosen the mortar, the mason was using a hand-held grinder and vibratory hammer. After several days of work, the brick mason reports to the job site trailer and reports to you that he has started to develop wheezing and shortness of breath and has numbness and tingling in his hands and fingers. You send the worker to the occupational health clinic to be seen by a physician and now you must initiate a course of hazard identification and control of the hazards that have caused the worker’s symptoms.

Analysis Guidelines

  • Research using the Hunt Library, the OSHA website, and other outside sources to help you prepare a three-page (minimum) report that covers your responses to the following questions:
  • What are the likely causes (i.e., underlying hazards) of the symptoms that the mason is reporting?
  • What are some options for controlling the hazards presented in this case study?
  • How feasible, effective, and permanent will the control options that you found during your research be in controlling the hazards that you identified? Be sure to reference the appropriate level of the “Hierarchy of Controls” for each of the control options that you discuss.
  • What is the “hazard control plan” for this task going forward on your site?
  • What are some ways that the effectiveness of the hazard controls that you have selected can be assessed and monitored?
  • Write your report using APA format.
  • Your analysis should include a reference page, as well as introductory and summary paragraphs.
  • Your analysis should be at least three pages double-spaced, not including the title page and reference page.

Save your assignment using a naming convention that includes your first and last name and the activity number (or description). Do not add punctuation or special characters.
