  • What are your initial thoughts?
  • How would you feel?
  • What challenges would this raise for you?
  • How would you deal with the challenges?
  • Identify what would guide your action and reaction to each situation. This may include:
  • Particular personal values and beliefs
  • Your rights as a worker
  • Professional ethics and codes of conduct
  • Internal and external policies and procedures and legislation

Scenario 1

A parent complains to you about a teacher and the approaches they use in the classroom and with the students. This parent can be quite difficult to handle and it can be easier to avoid them.

Scenario 2

You are at the work Christmas party at a local restaurant and you hear another worker make clearly racist jokes.

Part B – CHCDIV001

Task 1

You are required to create a poster that could be placed in the classroom which reflects this value – use mostly images rather than text.  You should produce your poster in A4 size – if necessary, you may use up to four pages.

Task 2

Assume you have been asked to present a workshop for your colleagues on the topic of ‘Promoting Anti-Bias in Schools’.

You are required to create a PowerPoint presentation to introduce the topic Work with diversity in the education environment (no more than 10 slides).  Note, if you do not have access to PowerPoint, this presentation can be created on 10 Word document pages.

Include a small activity that could be completed with the group to explore diversity and anti-bias, this may be from www.racismnoway.com.au, for example.

Provide your colleagues with three (3) websites where they can access appropriate resources/information about diversity and anti-racism.

Task 3

NB: Think more broadly than ethnicity and consider things like disability and shared community identity, to name a few.

Provide two examples of culturally different viewpoints and taking them into account when considering personal development and practice. You may like to provide examples from your experience or include examples you have researched.

Describe the term ‘normal’. What does ‘normal’ mean and who can be labelled ‘normal’? Do you know anyone who is ‘normal’ or anyone who is ‘not normal’ and why do you believe that they are or are not ‘normal’?
