Civil Rights In American Politics

Civil Rights In American Politics

Describe and define Equal Opportunity and Discrimination. Then, give two examples of situations, laws, or circumstances that are related to this idea.

What conditions make a law unjust?

Can you think of any unjust laws today that meet those conditions? If so, specify and explain. If not, specify and explain.

Why is the “moderate” voice needed in the cause for change in a democratic republic?

American Government

The Constitution is not a perfect document, hence the amendments.  What sort of amendments would you propose? There is no constitutional right to vote.  Would this be a good amendment? Would it let criminals vote? Should criminals be allowed to vote? Take into account the demographics and the way the justice system is skewed. Do amendments really protect us from the government and each other or is it just an illusion? Think the right to privacy and the debate about the NSA. Please feel free to discuss your own ideas about if and/or how we should amend the constitution.  Public relations is the same in government and in private business.  Do you agree or disagree? Why? Support your position from this week’s readings.

Federalism

The Founding Fathers were seeking to create a system of government with more liberty than almost any other form of government known at the time. In 500-750 words, do the following:

1.  Describe the aspects of a federalist system that appealed to the founding fathers to assist them in creating a just form of government (Note: Madison’s “double protection” argument in Federalist 51).

2.  Explain if federalism in fact lend itself to creating and protecting such liberty. Use research to support your claim.

Use three to five scholarly resources to support your explanations. Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide
