Discussion: Examining Nursing Specialties

You have probably seen one or more of the many inspirational posters about decisions. A visual such as a forked road or a street sign is typically pictured, along with a quote designed to inspire. Decisions are often not so easily inspired. Perhaps you discovered this when choosing a specialty within the MSN program. This decision is a critical part of your plan for success, and you no doubt want to get it right. This is yet another area where your network can help, as well as other sources of information that can help you make an informed choice.

To Prepare:

  • Reflect on your decision to pursue a specialty within the MSN program, including your professional and academic goals as they relate to your program/specialization. my specialisation is acute care gerontology

Post an explanation of your choice of a nursing specialty within the program. Describe any difficulties you had (or are having) in making your choice, and the factors that drove/are driving your decision. Identify at least one professional organization affiliated with your chosen specialty and provide details on becoming a member.

Censorship

  1. Identify the examples of strong thesis statements.
  2. Rewrite those that are weak thesis statements.Censorship is a bad thing.
  3. The brief history of television is punctuated by major changes in technology.
  4. World history is full of conflict.
  5. Although fitness experts all agree that weight lifting can be beneficial, they disagree over the ideal regimen.
  6. My sister could easily be mistaken for my mother sometimes.
  7. Only a fool would smoke cigarettes in the face of all the medical research proving the countless detrimental effects of smoking.

Gerontology

This assignment is for my Intro. to Gerontology  Using 500-1000 words:  In paragraph form,

  1. Identify 5 ‘red flags’ or ‘risk factors’ of vulnerability.
  2. Describe how you may determine these red flags/risk factors are present if you are a social worker working with an aging client.
  3. Provide examples of professional and non-threatening questions you may ask the client to gather more information about the accuracy of your observations.
  4. Provide at least 1 idea for the client to help eliminate or decrease the level of each vulnerability you identified.
  5. Provide 1  100-200 word response to a classmate.
