Review Essay

Instructions:

Write a 1500-word summary of this first Chapter of Calomaris and Haber (2014), ‘If Stable and Efficient Banks Are Such a Good Idea, Why Are They So Rare’, in the book Fragile by Design: The Political Economy of Banking Crises and Scarce Credit. What are the major points the authors are trying to make?

In addition, you will notice that Calomaris and Haber give some attention to Canada. Very briefly (no more than 250 words), how might the description in these pages of Canada’s situation be similarly applied to the structure of Australian banking and its regulation?
