Note:

This Group Assessment Report must be submitted online in Week 7 (see assignment due date on LMS). Groups not submitting at the commencement of class will receive an immediate 20% deduction off their mark. In addition, One person per group must submit the group report into the LMS dropbox (NOTE: only 1 member per team). The group presentation will also be done in week 8 (the week after the semester break). Please clearly depict names of all group members on the cover page of your report.

Note: This is a group assessment, and students are NOT permitted to submit individual assessments. Assessments submitted as an individual will receive a zero (0) mark for assessment 2.

In groups of between four to five students choose one of the top Entrepreneurs from BRW Rich List

http://www.afr.com/leadership/afr-lists/rich-list; and analyse their entrepreneurial ventures. Groups may chose an entrepreneurial venture outside the BRW Rich List, but the chosen venture must be approved by the lecturer prior to commencing the assessment.

Tasks:

Write a group report of 1500 words (max) on an entrepreneurial venture (also referred to as company, start-up, business or firm), taking particular cognisance of opportunity evaluation techniques identified in Module 3 (opportunity evaluation), and complimented with learnings from module 2.

You are to gather, critically review and use information to meet opportunity evaluation outcomes and generate new information and entrepreneurial decision making.

Your group must NOT use an entrepreneur that was used by any of your group members in Assessment 1. Below are some aspects that you could investigate (use as a guideline only):

  • Interaction of the venture with its entrepreneurship ecosystem (such as accelerators, incubators, business angels and support mechanisms)
  • Venture opportunity evaluation and execution of entrepreneurship opportunities (Note, entrepreneurship opportunity evaluation is not a Porters 5 forces)
  • How the venture progressed compared to theories (such as the entrepreneurship process)
  • Critical evaluation of entrepreneurial finance, law and marketing of the venture
  • How the venture created (or creates) value
  • Growth strategies adopted by the venture
  • Possible exist/harvest initiatives of the venture.
