Ethical Practices in the Workplace

Workplace ethics are a set of values, moral principles, and standards set to be followed and adhered to by both employers and employees in the workplace. The rules and regulations govern all the staff within the organization (Brooks & Dunn, 2017). The ethics are implemented to promote the employee-employer relationship and also employee-customer relations. The ethics in the organization may be put into writing or not but the fact remains they should be followed. Some of the ethical behaviors in the workplace include obeying the rules of the organization, communication effectiveness, taking responsibility, being accountable portraying professionalism, trust, and mutual respect to other colleagues within the organization (Brooks & Dunn, 2017). By following the ethical behaviors, the organization maximizes productivity output at work leading to growth.

In obeying the rules and regulations of the company, the organization provides various documents to the employees who are supposed to sign as an indication of agreement to follow the organization’s rules and regulations (Brooks & Dunn, 2017). Ineffectiveness in communication helps to avoid misunderstandings when dealing with issues in the workplace.  Portraying good professional relationships develops teamwork and enables individual career development for the employees. The professional relationship enables ideas to be shared and knowledge to be passed from the seniors to the junior employees. This enables the employees to take responsibility for the decisions made, whether individual or as a team. Accountability is another workplace value that has been in short to the workers that have been portrayed by both employees and the employers of the organizations (Bundy, 2017).

Fraud, Bribery and Crisis Management in International Organizations

Fraud is any criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain and bribery is the act of giving or offering an advantage as an inducement for an action that is illegal. The rate of fraud has been increasing in many organizations with the statistics revealing that one of every six companies experience fraud (Brooks & Dunn, 2017). The most experienced types of fraud are cybercrime, asset misappropriation, and customer fraud. These frauds are either committed by internal or external perpetrators with a lump sum amount of money being lost. Many organizations have experienced different cases of fraud and bribery which have been due to cases of duress from the seniors in the management or the seniors performing the act by themselves. The fraud actions have been triggered by the relaxation of adhering to organization rules, values, and virtues tabled by the organizations (Brooks & Dunn, 2017). When the management becomes reluctant many unethical behaviors occur in an organization including embezzlement of funds, taking credit for others’ hard work, verbal harassment, and many practices of corruption (Heath, 2018).

International organizations have pulled resources together to fight these crises and minimize frauds which have led to the sinking of many organizations.  In the management of the crisis, international organizations have focused on three key areas that will help to manage the crisis. The key areas including, learning about the structure, goals, responsibilities, norms, and cultures of international government and non-governmental organizations, becoming conversant with possibilities and limits of international crisis management which comprises understanding the method of settling the conflict and lastly addressing the means to overcome the crises.

In the management of the crisis, the international organizations have faced different challenges whereby recognizing the watersheds has been the main challenge. Several types of research have been performed where the results indicate that it is not only the detection of crisis but recognizing them in time that has been the major challenge. Many crises have been identified late having already occurred making it difficult for an international organization to manage. Despite these challenges, the organizations have tabled several effective actions to help the affected companies by dedicating resources to risk assessment, governance, and also third-party management. The companies should conduct a health risk assessment by assembling internal contributions from stakeholders within the organization and across geographies to identify the risk and identify the mitigating factors. The companies should also back up their technology with the right governance, expertise, and monitoring since recognizing one tool does not address all frauds.

The steps were taken by the organizations which emerged to be better included investigating to determine the root of the problem since this is the key to prevent further damages, bolstering the internal controls, policies, and procedures to assess the operations globally, and identify what might be missing and lastly taking disciplinary actions against employees which should apply to all workers since its enforcement serves as one of the key steps to effectiveness.
