Purpose

Davenport University is committed to helping students develop critical competencies that will serve them well in their careers and in life. The competencies were created by Davenport University faculty and staff members and are referred to as the “Excellence System.”  Students are introduced to the Excellence System Competencies in 100 and 200 level courses. The competencies are reinforced in 300 level courses and mastered in 400 level courses. To give instructors an opportunity to assess the extent to which the Excellence System Competencies have been mastered, specific exercises have been designed. Chapter 16, Consumer and Marketing Misbehavior will serve as the context to discuss Civic and Social Responsibility and Ethics. This required assignment explores the relationship between Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility.  Businesses regularly encounter ethical and social issues needing resolution.  This assignment prepares the student to formulate effective solutions.

CSR Background

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) includes a variety of activities some outside a business’ main operating model. These items include being a supportive community member, volunteering time and other resources, and being concerned about organizational stakeholders. Today customers are beginning to demand companies integrate CSR strategies into corporate policies. Stakeholders appreciate the altruistic intent when organizations integrate CSR strategies while meeting organizational goals.  Further, the American Marketing Association (AMA), via the citizenship ethical value, promotes the adoption of economic, legal, philanthropic and social responsibilities in a strategic manner.

DESCRIPTION

Weekly Learning Objectives:

  • Dissect consumer misbehavior and how it affects the exchange process.
  • Explore ethics, corporate social responsibility and various forms of regulation that affect marketing practice related to consumer behavior.

Using the Assignment Rubric listed below for the specific grading criteria, develop a well-researched 3-4 page paper addressing the following:

  • For this assignment, choose an organization with which you are familiar. This could be a business-to-business organization or a business-to-consumer organization. Create an initiative for this organization that addresses a community need where the organization could supply its expertise and resources to help address that need. An example might be a local grocery store donating food to a food pantry, or a company policy that allows Volunteer Time Off to assist a non-profit or community organization.

Be sure to address the following in your paper:

  • Briefly discuss your chosen business.
  • Discuss a community organization or non-profit organization your business could support. Suggest why this community organization or non-profit would be a good fit for your business.
  • Assess the needs of the community or non-profit organization.
  • Develop a plan for your business to address these needs and discuss how your business will implement and engage others in the initiative.
  • Analyze the potential outcomes for both your business and the community or non-profit organization
  • Suggest how your business will share this information with stakeholders.

Write a 3-4 page paper addressing the ethical values your business engages in. Make sure to address each of the six ethical values. It is suggested you write a comprehensive paragraph on each value.

The paper should include an introduction and a conclusion, a minimum of 3 outside sources and follow APA formatting.
