Questions 1 & 2: https://thedigitalprojectmanager.com/project-management-skills/#comments

Part 1: This recent article by Ben Aston provides a great summary of the Project Management Field along with the skills necessary to be successful. The skills list is essentially divided into three categories. Review each of the categories carefully and describe which 3 skills in each category (for a total of 9) you believe you need to be successful in your career and why. This should take at least several paragraphs. Provide a work or academic example as to how you have used at least 3 of skills you have selected.

Part 2: Now that you have read the article, identify at least 3 skills from any category you believe are among your weaker skill set. Try to be completely honest in your assessment. Every working adult professional has weaknesses – no one is perfect. Those who really excel take the time to honestly evaluate their knowledge, skills and abilities and then make any necessary adjustments. Which 3 would you say you need to improve? And why do you believe this is the case? Provide an example to support your rationale for identifying your weaknesses; perhaps a situation in your work, academic or family life lead you to your assessment.
This should be accomplished in at least a couple of paragraphs. Honesty will set you free!

Question 3: https://productivityland.com/project-management-skills/
Here is another article by a different author, Steve Parker, that also highlights essential Project Management Skills. But wait a minute, didn’t we just review a complete suggested skill set that is needed for success by Ben Aston? Of course, but the Parker article lists the skill set in a different mindset. This is commonplace. Take a few minutes and review Parker’s article and then decide if you see any overlap or difference between his and Aston’s approach. What three skills are evident and you believe to be most critical to have based on both of these articles? Why? Provide your rationale in several paragraphs using the information from the articles.

Question 4: https://www.pmi.org/
After careful review of the Project Management Institute website, you should come away with a basic understanding of the field, certifications, and expectations of PM professionals. For this question you will want to provide the following:

  • Find an article on the PMI website of interest and briefly summarize its focus and purpose. Why is the content relevant to you as a PM major? Describe in a couple of paragraphs.
  • What did you discover about PM certifications? Are you planning on acquiring a certification or perhaps more than 1? Which one(s) and why?
  • Review the job opportunities that are listed on the lower portion of the PMI homepage. Do you see yourself working as a Project Manager within any of these types of positions in the future? What is your immediate professional goal after obtaining your BAS in Project Management at CSN? How will your BAS help you achieve your goal? Provide your summary in a paragraph or two.
