Process Value vs. Product Innovation

Process Value vs. Product Innovation

This module’s assignment is a position paper. Below are two statements of which you will select one to be the basis of the assignment. You are then asked to determine if you will take a pro (agree) or con (disagree) position on the statement. You must then (in 1 page) argue your position of pro or con.

Remember, you are to select one statement only. You should restate the quote at the beginning of your paper (center it), and then right after the statement write your position … AGREE or DISAGREE. You will then argue your position with the use of three sources, which you will also include as an attached reference page. The position paper is limited to one page and an additional page for references.

Background Information Disney invested a billion dollars in the development of the MagicBand, yet never introduced this innovation to any of its theme parks beyond the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Smartphone technology had advanced sufficiently by the time the MagicBand was introduced that consumer reliance on smartphones required an app be developed and utilized in the Chinese theme park properties. In fact, by the time the MagicBand technology was introduced to Walt Disney World, it was already somewhat antiquated.

Statement 1: The MagicBand was an expensive technology investment that pin-pointed ‘pain points’ in the theme park customer experience. This information and the resulting adjustments to the parks’ designs and customer service approaches justified the investment by Disney.

Agree or Disagree and support your position in one page with 3 cites.

Statement 2 “Process technology innovation (i.e., Magic Bands) enhances the effectiveness of service delivery, but this proves difficult to justify in terms of ROI on a billion dollar investment.”

Agree or Disagree and support your position in one page with 3 cites.

Be mindful, you have one page to complete your support or opposition to the position stated. You then should include 3 cites to help support the position you take. The best position papers show specific reasons and support for the position vs. merely describing the position and why you “personally” agree.
