As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, you will likely encounter patients who suffer from various mental health disorders. Not surprisingly, ensuring that your patients have the appropriate psychopharmacologic treatments will be essential for their overall health and well-being. The psychopharmacologic treatments you might recommend for patients may have potential impacts on other mental health conditions and, therefore, require additional consideration for positive patient outcomes. For this Assignment, you will review and apply your understanding of psychopharmacologic treatments for patients with multiple mental health disorders.

For the episode to occur, there is required of 5 symptoms which include the depressed mood, loss of pleasure or interest, significant loss of weight when not dieting or weight gain, slowing down of the thought and physical movement reduction and loss of energy and fatigue. As per the major depression to occur, its associated with the high mortality and mighty be accounted by suicide. Mostly, depression is associated with lack of sleep, lack of appetite and staying at the bed the whole day (Jerry & David, 2020). That should not be the case for a normal person as one should be able to sleep normal hours, remain motivated when doing things and maintain the eating desire.

Three classes of drugs which precipitate insomnia include the Z Sedative Hypnotics, benzodiazepines and Dual Orexin Receptor Antagonists. The Zolpidem sedative Hypnotics work like a facilitator for GABA receptors within the central nervous system within the body and its work is to inhibit the activities of brain. These drugs have been provided to improve the onset and sleeping durations thus considered as first-line part for drug therapy for treating different types of insomnia (Pharmacy Times, 2016). Benzodiazepines are longer acting agents on the class which are associated with increase in the falls. This class of drug helps someone in remembering the less benzodiazepines which are not harmful and it’s not approved for sleeping disorders. Dual Orexin Receptor Antagonist is one of the newest drugs which antagonize or inhibits the orexin receptor which promotes wakefulness.
