SOC218 Discussion: Sustainable Food Systems

SOC218 Discussion: Sustainable Food Systems

Background

The purpose of this paper is to consider how regenerative agriculture could contribute to a more sustainable approach to agriculture as well as to the sustainable development goals.

Assignment Instructions

View the TEDx video titled: Regeneration of Our Lands – A Producer’s Perspective and respond to the following:

  1. Discuss three ways in which Gabe Brown’s approach to farming differs from a more conventional/industrialized approach. Explain how you think each of the ways you identified contributes to a sustainable approach to agriculture and to a more sustainable food system.
  2. Explain how you think regenerative agriculture could contribute to the advancement of the sustainable development goals. Discuss two sustainable development goals in your response.

Note: It’s important to remember the presenter in the TEDx video is speaking from his own experience based on his farm, location, soil, etc. This is not a one size fits all approach – different approaches work in different locations and situations.

Total word count: 400 to 600 words

Do not include the questions in your paper. This is an academic paper and is to be written in paragraph, essay-style format. Sub-headings are acceptable.

Citations

Although discussion papers are expected to be in your own writing and, in many cases, based on your own opinion, you may choose to reference some of the course materials or other sources to support your points. Since these sources help to form your opinion and are not your own ideas, they are considered outside sources and therefore, in-text citations and a reference list in APA format must be included.  In accordance with Seneca’s Academic Policy, should in-text citations and a reference list be omitted, the assignment will be graded as 0, until further review by the Academic Integrity Committee. See Seneca Libraries APA Citation Guide for information about how to create in-text citations and a works cited/reference list.

Assignment checklist:
