Personal Opinion on the Website

O*NET is a perfect website where all job zones are clearly documented. O*NET classifies job zones into five categories based on education levels, experience, and the training needed to qualify for the occupation (National Center for O*NET Development, 2020). In this paper, only work zones 3, 4 and 5 were used. The website was very useful in helping me understand the education, experience, and training requirements for my careers of choice.

My interest in becoming a self-enrichment education teacher is classified under work zone 3, where the required courses include non-vocational, self-improvement, and non-academic subjects. What matters most is the level of experience and ability to encourage students to explore new learning opportunities. Family service worker is classified under work zone 4 where considerate preparation in terms of bachelor’s degree, related experience, and job training is needed. Substance abuse counselor is classified under job zone 5, and extensive preparation in terms of master’s degree, Ph.D., related experience, and job training is needed.

Also, the website was very simple to navigate. Finding the work zone using my career scores was very simple in this website. The site connected me to my careers of choice by giving me all the required education, training, and experience. Also, the median annual salary range was properly documented in the site. O*NET portal was also very easy to use, as there are options “help”, “find occupations” “advanced search” and “crosswalks” that made it easy to navigate to the pages of interest.

Using the Site to Provide Career Counseling with Clients

People struggle in their career choice. As a careers counselor, one meets diverse clients and offering them and guidance is sometimes difficult. Good communication and listening are among the basic attributes of a counselor. In dealing with career choice clients, a counselor should not hesitate referring them to O*NET site. In O*NET, clients will have time to go through all work zones and understand the required education, experience levels, and salaries (National Center for O*NET Development, 2020).

I understand that career choices are based on passion, academic qualifications, and future professional expectations. After clients go through O*NET, I will then ask them their current passion or interests, academic qualifications, and where they see themselves in the next 10 years (National Center for O*NET Development, 2020). Using this information and my counseling experience, I will guide….

What happens when Personality Types are mismatched with Jobs?

Conclusion

O*NET is a good website for helping individuals identify occupations that are satisfying and suitable to them based on the existing similarity between their work values such as independence, achievement, and conditions of work and also the attributes of the occupations in terms of education, level of experience, and training required. Lastly, personality traits must be matched with jobs to ensure job satisfaction and productivity of a worker.
