Assessment 1- Presentation for PUN620

Assessment 1 – Submitting  your Presentation for PUN620

There are two steps to this submission process. If you have any trouble, please contact Melissa (Melissa.haswell@qut.edu.au) – if it is very close to submission time, you may send her your powerpoint slides to show you tried to submit on time.

  1. Submitting ONLY your powerpoint to Turnitin.

Save your talking powerpoint with another name so you have at least two copies – for example PUN620_Group 13_z1234567_LoveCanal_no audio. Use this version to delete the vocals on each of the slides. Save the file.

Go in to the Assessment tab on Blackboard, click on Assessment 1 Presentation Details and Submission site.  You will see the Turnitin link that says Assessment 1 – Your powerpoint slides only. Follow the usual submission procedure to upload your powerpoint. I have provided some tips on the submission site.

  1. Posting up your audio powerpoint on youtube —

Please refer to the information sheet on the Assessment 1 blackboard site for tips on how to make an audio powerpoint presentation (talking powerpoint). It is easier than you may think!

Once you have produced the presentation and ready to submit, save the file as an *.mp4 file.

Then you need to go to the youtube site to our PUN620CONCEPTS channel and to the PLAYLIST where your group is submitting their presentations. You can do this in various ways, but the easiest way to do it is to copy and paste the link that takes you directly to your Group’s playlist site (see page 2 for your Group’s link). Once there, you need to sign in at the top right hand corner – click on the box that says Sign in. Enter the following information:

Then go up to the top right hand corner there the underlined arrow is found (next to the Bell and blue person picture) – when you point to it, it should say ‘upload’. You can either click on ‘select files to upload’ or ‘drag and drop’ the file from your desktop into the square.

Note – Do not go to ‘add videos’ as you can’t add one from your computer through this pathway.

Then in the title box – use the following format for naming your presentation —-

PUN620 Group (your group number)_z1234567(your z number)_Place (where your case study is from)  ===       for example PUN620 Group 13_z1234567_LoveCanal

You can write in a very brief sentence about your case study in the box for Description if you like to get people interested in watching your wonderful presentation!

Then click on +Add to Playlist.

After a few moments (it will take some time) – you should then be able to exit.

  1. Listening to other people’s powerpoints during the designated weeks and providing your constructive feedback to your designated student.

Instructions will be provided.

Assessment 1 – Details for your Presentation (adjusted to remove the requirement for submitting your written script and due date adjusted to April 6)

Both internal and external students should now be assigned to a group that is allocated an emerging or unsolved big picture environmental health challenge that has caused or is potentially causing impacts at a local level.

Group members will communicate on line and in class to discuss the challenge and consider and investigate the different ways that it could impact on human health. The group will then be responsible for selecting a range of case studies that demonstrate the different types of settings and circumstances where it was (or is currently being) experienced. The quality of the Group’s case study selection will contribute 5 marks (15%) to each group members’ grade with the aim of “selecting an exceptional range of case studies, which cover a diversity of situations and provide an exceptional learning opportunity for your colleagues about the depth and breadth of your Group’s topic”.  Evidence of contribution will be determined by attendance in class during the Group work session and/or on line postings within your specific group.

These presentations will be in the form of talking/audio powerpoints and uploaded to a designated youtube channel as part of the whole class learning resources. Instructions will be provided.

While the group work is critical for identifying and assigning the different aspects of the challenge that need to be covered, each student will work individually to create an independent contribution to the whole.

Each group member will be required to prepare an 8-10 minute audio powerpoint investigating one circumstance as a case study (20 marks, or 70% of the grade). Students can choose to use either an environmental health hazard pathway or a health impact assessment framework as an approach to communicate and critically analyse the issue. All students will need to consider appropriate solutions that use an interdisciplinary approach and discuss relevant principles of environmental health and sustainable development associated with the challenge, at a global or local level as relevant. Assessment 1- Presentation for PUN620

An electronic copy of your powerpoint presentation slides (without the audio component) must be submitted via Turnitin.

Each student will also be required to provide constructive feedback to a student’s presentation in another group (5 marks, 15% of the grade).

The marking criteria for this assessment is available on the Assessment 1 tab in Blackboard. Please examine and adhere to these criteria to ensure you are covering the requirements of the Assessment.

Recorded presentations must be submitted by 9PM on Tuesday April 6, 2018. Your constructive feedback to your identified student is due by the end of the week when the material is being covered (see Unit outline).

Updated From your Unit Outline

Assessment name: Presentation
Your task is: You will work in a group to explore a major global environmental health challenge that has caused or is potentially causing impacts at a local level.

The group will identify a range of specific events or circumstances that can be examined as a case study for this assessment.

Each member of the group will then be responsible for preparing an 8-10 minute recorded presentation, which describes and critically analyses the environmental/ecological health issues involved (as relevant to the Group’s environmental challenge) in one of these specific circumstances as a case study. The case study analysis should be structured according to the Environmental Health Hazard Pathway OR appropriate parts of the Health Impact Assessment framework.

All students will need to consider appropriate solutions that use an interdisciplinary approach and discuss relevant principles of environmental health and sustainable development associated with the challenge, at a global or local level as relevant.

These presentations will be made available to the whole class as part of their learning resources. An electronic copy of the audio presentation must be submitted via Turnitin. Please make sure you have a slide containing the references you used in preparing your case study presentation.

The group work is critical for identifying case studies illustrating the different aspects of the challenge that need to be covered (5% of the mark), but each student will work individually to create an independent contribution to the whole (20% of the mark).

Each student will also be required to provide brief but constructive feedback to a student’s presentation in another group (5% of the mark).
