Important details

You are required to record and submit a (3-7) minute oral presentation of your group report (Part A tasks). Each group member creates and submits their own individual presentation.

This task is worth 40% of your final mark. It is to be completed in groups of 3 – 4 students. You need to submit the names of the students that are in your group to your tutor for approval.

Your report should be between 2500 – 3000 words excluding the diagrams that are required for this assignment.

Introduction

The aim of this assignment is to demonstrate your understanding of business analysis and the nature of business problems in an organisational context.

The learning outcomes covered by this task include:

1 Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary issues associated with business analysis and analyse the nature of business problems in an organisational context
2 Communicate effectively as a professional and function as an effective leader or member of a diverse team
3 Evaluate key business analysis methodologies and their application in

organisations

4 Apply theories, tools and techniques for business analysis to organisational

scenarios

5 Discuss, illustrate and apply design thinking to analytical activities

The tasks

You are required to act as the business analyst for the organisation in the case study and do the following:

  1. Provide updated version of Rich Picture: Group members need to evaluate each other’s rich picture presented in assignment 1 by following Williams’ (2005) instruction. You are required to select one and to improve it to a higher standard. The Rich Picture has to cover the problems you selected.
  2. Apply ETHICS to the key problem you selected within the case study or apply SSM to this case study. If you apply SSM, you are required to perform steps 3 – 7 on three Transformations for at least 2 stakeholders. To do this, you are required to:
    1. Provide a justification of why you selected the method you did, its strengths and weaknesses for this particular
    2. Provide a description of the steps you followed in ‘solving’ the problem, including any appropriate diagrams, models,
    3. Provide a clear statement of any assumptions you have made in solving the case as there is inevitably limited information in the
    4. Provide the outcome(s) (‘solution(s)’) and any other recommendations related to it. This solution should clearly demonstrate how you used the problem solving methodology as part of your
  3. Identify what role the business analyst will play in addressing the problem(s). What are the issues and challenges that the business analyst will face while analysing the problem for system development?
  4. Contrast agile systems development with any of the other methods (e.g. Ethics, SSM) to illustrate how it can address the issues you have identified in the section 1. It is important that you distinguish between analysis and design to do the contrast.

Finally, It is expected that all work submitted, will have been edited for spelling, grammar and clarity.

Your report needs to follow our standard business report format. Pages need to be numbered and your name must also appear on each page, not just the cover page. Evidence of attention to layout and structure needs to be present. The written submission is to be formatted as a report, word-processed in 12 point font and 1.5 line spacing.

In this assignment, the word count does not include the executive summary, table of contents, appendices, and references. Please respect the word count.
