The “IHI Module: PS 202 Achieving Total Systems of Safety” provides eight recommendations for DNP leaders to promote patient safety and prevent harm. These recommendations are:

  1. Leadership Engagement
  2. Culture of Safety
  3. Interdisciplinary Teamwork
  4. Evidence-Based Practice
  5. Measurement and Feedback
  6. Reliable Systems
  7. Patient and Family Engagement
  8. Continuous Improvement

As a DNP leader, I would choose the following three key recommendations to promote safety among the workforce in my organization and improve health outcomes:

  1. Leadership Engagement: I would actively engage with my staff, promoting the importance of patient safety and encouraging their involvement in identifying and addressing potential risks.
  2. Evidence-Based Practice: I would prioritize the use of evidence-based practices in decision-making, ensuring that my organization is following the most current and effective protocols to reduce the risk of harm to patients.
  3. Continuous Improvement: I would establish a culture of continuous improvement, regularly reviewing processes and procedures to identify areas for improvement and making necessary changes to enhance patient safety and prevent harm.
